“Just born and already good enough to eat.”
His favorite food is Italian, but he makes chocolate. He is an entrepreneur at heart, and his cookies are loved by everyone — we’re talking about Martijn Heus of Chocoloco. Besides making cookies, he has his own podcast where he even appears on television, he helps a friend in fashion retail, and he handles marketing & communication at a nearby daycare center.
What is Chocoloco?
Martijn begins proudly:
“The company has existed for more than twenty years, and it started when my daughter was born. When choosing her birth announcement card in those old Felicitas folders, you could have a text printed inside. I had printed: Just born and already good enough to eat. But there was nothing to eat. So I went to a chocolatier, and he made a little chocolate disc with her name sprayed on it in a sugar solution with a pink piece of paper. A buddy glued that onto the card and sent it out. We received many nice reactions, and after two weeks I got a call from Renault Netherlands. My phone number was on the card, and they asked where I had this made. I told them I would make it for them — and that’s how Chocoloco was born.”
Who else do you make chocolate for?
The real question is: who don’t we make it for? He explains:
“We make cookies and chocolate from very small to very large quantities. For a large provider we make chocolate remote controls, for example. At the IPO of one of the major banks, we made 25,000 bonbons. We also make blue chocolate, and we work a lot for Walt Disney — think musicals. We used to make red roses for Beauty and the Beast. The chocolate comes specially from Belgium, so it’s of very high quality.”
